Born in Venezuela, Maria T Cummins developed her passion for food as a young girl.
In her early 20’s she came to the United States and entered the restaurant business in Boston MA.
Later in San Diego CA she opened El Tucan Restaurant. It was in San Diego that Chef Maria was challenged by the culture and regional ingredients that ultimately contributed to the inventive style she’s known for today. Also during this time in San Diego, Chef Maria was introduced to organic produce importance of nutrition.
Year’s later chef Maria moved to Miami. In 2007, she was approached by the owner of a private school to teach a group of children to cook in an after school program. It was during this initial interaction with children that Chef Maria learned what children were eating and more importantly…..”not eating”. Many children had no real exposure to nutritious food whatsoever. It’s astonishing! The program was great success and the Real Food Academy was born.
Good food should play a major role in the life of children say’s Chef Maria. She also believes that children can to be taught culinary skills to develop all their senses, boost their self steam and have a better understanding of where food comes from.
The Real Food Academy also offers “Chef’s Birthday Parties” where you can come to our location or we can bring a mobile kitchen to the location of your choice. We set up for a 2 hour cooking extravaganza where everyone gets to enjoy and learn.
