The first time I tried this dessert I died and went to heaven! It was my friend Chef Stefania Barzini from Italy who shared with me this delicious recipe that "takes you back to childhood". There are a few variations you can do to make it dairy free. Use almond or coconut milk instead of whole milk and you will still hear the lullaby after the first bite!
Curcumin (turmeric) may stop the action of a liver enzyme that activates environmental toxins into carcinogenic forms, and may be especially useful in deactivating the carcinogens in cigarette smoke and chewing tobacco. Turmeric in the diet increases the production of enzymes that digest fats and sugars, and stop cholesterol from forming gallstones. Turmeric prevents the release of histamine in the stomach, quelling nervous stomach and counteracting food allergies and it fights gum inflammation by halting the action of a gene that creates irritant chemicals. Without the irritation, bacteria cannot find a place to grow, and the absence of bacteria reduces both bad breath and gingivitis.
This drink made out of rice and milk is traditionally made in countries from Central America. The combination of milk, rice and cinnamon makes it very fulfilling and refreshing. Make a large pitcher and keep it chill.
This recipe is a cross from a cinnamon roll and an apple pie. It's low in sugar and you could substitute the regular pie crust for a gluten free one, found in a health food store. We prepared this recipe in our cooking school during a kids class, and everyone had so much fun rolling out the dough and placing the cinnamon mixture on the pie log then cutting them into circles. It was for sure a hit!
